Is There a Good Colorist for Balayage in Cary, NC?

Balayage is color painted by hand onto the surface of your hair. It grows in soft, with no hard stripe at the root. At Lumina Extensions & Beauty Bar in Cary, we paint it for clients who want brightness that looks lived in. Want more lift and contrast? Foils usually get you there.

Which one fits depends on your hair, your color history, and how often you want to sit in the chair. We settle that together before any lightener is mixed. If you already know what you want, book your balayage appointment and bring your photos.

Does Lumina Paint Balayage and Foil Highlights?

Yes. Lumina Extensions & Beauty Bar paints balayage by hand and places foil highlights. We work from our studio at 605 Mills Park Dr in Cary. Balayage gives you a soft grow out. Foils give brighter, more even lift from closer to the root. Every color plan starts with your photos and your hair history, and we finish with a toner when your hair needs one.

The studio sits in west Cary, a short drive from Apex, Morrisville and the other nearby towns we serve.

Balayage or Foil Highlights: Which Fits Your Hair?

If you want soft dimension and an easy grow out, balayage usually fits. Clients after an even, bright blonde usually do better with foils.

Balayage

We paint brightness where light hits, mostly around your face and through the lengths. It suits you if you want a lived in look and a root that grows out without a harsh line. On fine or thinned hair, we keep the brightest pieces just off the part, so the dimension reads fuller. You can usually go longer between full color visits.

Foil highlights

Foils hold lightener closer to the root, so the lift is brighter and more even. They suit an icy or uniform blonde. The tradeoff is a more visible regrowth line, so you come back sooner.

A mix of both

Some plans use foils around the face, then paint the rest for softness. On fine or thinning hair, we keep the foils off the part line. You get brightness up front and an easier grow out everywhere else.

Lightener stresses every strand. On thinning or recently lightened hair, we keep the plan gentle. A jump from deep brunette to bright blonde is a transformation we plan in stages, never in one forced day. You can see how our color grows out on our Instagram.

Why Clients Choose Balayage at Lumina Extensions & Beauty Bar

Clients come to us for color planned around the whole head of hair, including any hair we add. Three things set our approach apart.

Color planned around any hair we add

Our owner, Kristi Gillikin, is a Hair Loss & Extension Specialist certified in three extension methods (IBE, NBR and Laced) and two mesh integration programs. That background shapes where we place color. If you wear extensions or a custom hair enhancement from us, we blend your own hair and the added hair where they meet.

Calm and unhurried

Color takes time. Our clients' reviews describe a calm, relaxing atmosphere and a caring touch at the chair, and that is the pace we keep. Some clients arrive without a plan at all. That's fine. We work it out together.

Straight answers about what your hair can take

Some clients come to us after highlights elsewhere turned orange and brassy. We tell you plainly whether a toner will fix it or whether it needs more work. If a big change needs two visits to protect your hair, we say so first.

What Happens at a Balayage Appointment?

Your visit runs from a conversation to a finished blowout, and nothing is mixed until we agree on a plan.

  1. Show us photos of color you love, and tell us your history, including box dye and past highlights.
  2. Settle the plan after a condition check: balayage, foils, or both.
  3. Relax while we paint and the lightener processes. We watch the lift, not a timer.
  4. Rinse, tone if your hair needs it, and blow dry, so leftover warmth is softened before you see the finish.

Plan on a longer visit than a haircut, and we'll confirm your time when you book. Ready to pick a day? Check our open times.

How Much Does Balayage Cost?

Your price depends on your hair and your plan, so the exact quote comes from the conversation at the start of your visit. You hear it before any color is mixed. These are the things that move it:

  • The length and density of your hair
  • How much lift you want, and how dark you're starting
  • Whether earlier color needs correcting first
  • Whether you're due for a toner refresh or a full repaint. A refresh only tones the color you already have, so it's a shorter visit than painting new brightness.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is balayage the same as highlights?

No. Balayage is painted by hand and grows out soft, while foils lift from closer to the root and show regrowth sooner. Some plans use a mix of both.

How long does balayage last?

The lightened pieces stay until you cut them out. The toner is what fades, so you can stretch the time between full appointments with a toner refresh in between.

Can you fix brassy highlights from another salon?

Yes, in many cases. If the hair was lifted far enough, a toner can neutralize warm tones in one visit. If the lift is uneven or banded, we explain what a fuller touch up involves before we start.

Can I get balayage if my hair is thinning or I wear extensions?

Yes. We plan your color and any added hair together, and we keep lightening gentle on fragile strands. Extensions and enhancements start with a consultation, so mention both when you reach out.
