Brazilian Blowout

A Brazilian Blowout is the frizz fix that keeps your movement. On our menu it is listed as Brazilian Blowout / Keratin. It calms frizz, softens texture and makes hair faster to blow dry. Pick it if you still want your wave and just want the puff gone. Our Keratin Smoothing Treatment, described below, is a separate service.

Keratin Smoothing Treatment

Keratin Smoothing Treatment is a separate formula on our menu. Formulas differ in how much wave they relax, and we talk through which one fits after we look at your hair. Both soften gradually as you wash, instead of leaving a hard line where new growth starts.

Our menu also lists Pura Luxe and the Saphira Smoothing Treatment. We talk through whether either fits once we see your hair.

What we suggest comes down to four things:

• How thick or fine your hair is.
• Its condition, including any lightening or color history.
• How much natural wave you want to keep.
• What else is in your hair, like extensions or a custom enhancement.

Smoothing is not for everyone. If your hair is fragile from heavy lightening, we may suggest waiting. If you love a defined curl pattern, talk to us first. Smoothing loosens texture, and that tradeoff does not suit every client.

What happens at a smoothing appointment

A smoothing appointment is a much longer sit than a blowout. The formula goes on in small sections, and every one of those sections gets ironed. That ironing is doing the real work. The heat sets the formula along the outside of each strand and lays the cuticle flat, which is why hair comes out glossy and frizzes less in humidity.

1. Talk it through at the chair. We look at your hair, ask what frustrates you, and confirm which treatment fits.
2. Cleanse. We wash your hair to prepare it for the formula.
3. Apply in sections. Your stylist works the treatment through small sections so every strand is covered evenly.
4. Dry and seal. We blow dry, then flat iron in fine sections to lock the smoothness in.
5. Rinse and finish when the treatment calls for it.
6. Go over aftercare, including when you can wash, which differs by treatment.

How to make the smoothing last

Aftercare decides how long the result holds. We go over your first wash before you leave, because the wait is different depending on which treatment we used. After that, four habits do most of the work.

1. Wash with a sulfate free shampoo and conditioner.
2. Turn your heat tools down and reach for them less often.
3. Leave your hair loose for the first days. Tight elastics and clips can press creases into freshly smoothed hair.
4. Rinse your hair out after chlorine or salt water.

Smoothing fades gradually, and new growth meets it in a soft line, not a hard one. When frizz starts winning again and your hair feels harder to manage, it is time to come back.
